Service Description

This is going to be one of the most unique farm tour experiences! Nestled at the base of the Steens Mountain, along the shorelines of an ancient dry lakebed, you will find Little House on the Playa. 160 acres of unique diversity. This cold, high desert climate is a challenge to farm, but with a little thinking outside the box, we are turning the desert green! Planting over 50 trees in our first year, we are passionate about finding a balance between nature and farming. Jesse is an OSU Permaculture Design graduate. In taking the permaculture approach, we are first observing and second acting. Through the observation and action process, we have begun building our 90 foot walking labyrinth garden, as well as numerous raised bed gardens. In focus on the potential to be not only sustainable but restorative, we are focusing on animals that we can utilize within the system, to help everything flow. Rabbits, horses, a mini cow, milk and pack goats, aquaponics and tilapia fish! We are growing fish in the desert! By utilizing the geothermal water, future expansion into geothermally heated greenhouse and so much more to come! We can't wait to share our adventure with you!
